Well, I here to give you my testimony of encounters in this unique year aboard and the best month of the best year of my life happened started on January 10th in the capital of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte. As soon as I stepped of the bus I rushed to meet the people that I spent I great weekend with 4 months beforehand and shared so many laughs with. We hugged and greeted and strangely stared at the people not from our District, 4760. We had an orientation that immediately started off with the rules of the trip and consequences especially if apprehended with alcohol on the trip, and also told us that dating was forbidden even kissing. Then when on also to explain how Terra Brasil (the organization) has hundred dollars of ours and each rule or way we hold the group back they are going to take 2 dollars from the $100 and $10 for breaking curfew and breaking one of the D’s, and for speaking in a language other than Portuguese.
The orientation ended and we started our medical exams with Dr.Máirica who asked basic questions, took your temperature and heart pressure and reminded us how white we are and the importance of sunblock. Then our professor of Forro, a typical folk dance of Brasil, arrived with some partners and taught us the fast beat and the motion of the feet. He explained that Forro is like Salsa, but you have to closer to your women and mesh into one. I danced with a Norwegian looking American named Matthew from Minnesota that had couldn’t dance at the beginning but at the end with some help we got the steps and laughed the rest of the time.

We left early the next morning for the Capital of Brasil, called Brasília and spent almost 9 hours on the bus sleeping and switching seats constantly. We arrived at nice hotel where apparently many political figures stay and consistently demanded we be quiet because the group exchange students that went there in December were almost arrested because a noise complaint, and the Doormen thanked god that their were only 48 os us and not 100. Later and settled with dinner we meet in front of dinning area and learned a new thing, that ever day we will have a meeting and we stand up and tell the story of a friend that did something funny. For example: Falling, language mistakes, accidentally stealing baby clothes from the beach, etc,. Who ever received the most claps and yells had no choice but to bear the shame of wearing an enormous binkie around the unlucky fellow’s neck for the entire day. If you are bearer of the binkie that day, it is your duty to atleast one moment scream, ” JEGUE POURTA” at particular moment where everyone is together and have spectators to watch 47 (1 with the binkie watching) fall onto their back in a skirt or dress sprawling about like a beetle screaming for a good twenty 20. Then return to normal and continue on with day with perhaps a bit more dirt on the shoulders than usual.

We went to serval buildings designed by Oscar  Niemeyer, who is alive and is 104 years old married for the second time not to long ago with a woman of 84, that dog. Brasília is the one city extremely different from the others, because of its organization and architecture. Normal buildings cannot pass 6th levels, all  the city banks are in on section and the supermarkets in a different spot. The roads are big and smooth like the US and roads trash free. I personally would never live in Brasília but I did fall in love with the museums and bearishly roads. We visited churches and landmarks along with taking some ridiculous photo taking. The tours guides, Ana and Juliana called me over to do a newspaper interview because of my portuguese, which was a good pat on the back for me.
